The Cost for Toast
Giorgos Zalogiannis
Greece - Short Film
Director Statement:
In the world between the mundane and the extraordinary, I find inspiration for the stories I tell. My name is Giorgos Zalogiannis, and I am a director based in Athens, Greece. Born in 2002, I grew up in the bustling city of Athens. Surrounded by this thick urban landscape, it is in this space that I started experimenting with films and photography. My work is an exploration of the relationship between people and their surroundings. The way the modern human experiences existence is a recurring theme in my art. My aim is to transfer this through the visual narratives I create.
Due to the limited resources at my disposal, I attempt to capture the often overlooked parts of life. As well as the surreal elements that life carries with it. As an artist, I believe in the power of art to evoke emotions and offer a glimpse into previously unseen worlds. My goal is not only to create visually compelling works but to invite viewers into a space not seen before. I aim to challenge perceptions, spark conversations, and encourage a deeper appreciation for the beauty that emerges from life itself.

Dollars That Make Sense
Richard Power Hoffmann
USA - Animation
A fun, stop-motion animated film about how foundations need to align their endowments with their missions.
Director Statement
It seems that mission-aligned investing is a no-brainer for non-profit organizations, but so many boards don’t take the steps necessary to make that transition. Perhaps inertia is the cause, or maybe foundation board members simply never think about it. In either case, we set out to make a fast-paced, fun film that laid out the concepts in a simple manner. We chose to use U.S. coins and bills as the material to construct the sets and created origami characters out of dollar bills to illustrate the story.
We wanted to convey through currency that almost everything requires funding to create, and board members have the power to direct what that money is doing in the world. We decided that an upbeat musical score would best punctuate the informative, but playful narration. We cast Ben Franklin as the voice of reason to counter the narration, as his sayings of financial prudence are often cited as wisdom, especially in our hometown of Philadelphia. Stop-motion animation was chosen for its handmade quality that adds to the humor and charm of the film, which just might convince a board to change their investment profile to match their foundation’s mission.
