“ETHernal Gas Blues”

Currently residing in Spain
(previously lived in Los Angeles)

Why did you want to create this project?

This song was written in response to the unreasonably high transaction (“gas” in crypto terms) fees on the Etherium (ETH) network. At the time of composition, the ETH gas fees cost several hundred dollars for simple transactions, which was often higher than the value of the cryptocurrencies that I wanted to invest in or sell. This limited my ability to make certain financial transactions, so channeling that frustration into a song was very cathartic.

Why is it important for people to see this?

“ETHernal Gas Blues” is a satirical song that recounts the errors that people may make when they first begin to invest in cryptocurrencies, and provides helpful guidance on how to avoid these mistakes. It promotes financial responsibility in a wholesome and humorous manner, without glorifying materialism.

In addition to the lessons, it also introduces audiences to certain crypto terms and concepts, such as “moon”, “rugged”,  “gas”, etc.

Is there a money or finance lesson we can learn from this?

Each verse of this song depicts a cautionary tale of possible investment mishaps, and each subsequent chorus provides guidance on how to avoid that.

The first verse warns of how people can be lured into allowing emotions to interfere with investment decisions (in this case, the promise of a sketchy investment exponentially increasing in value, aka “going to the moon”), and the first chorus recommends researching an investment to make an informed decision (for instance, by learning to read charts).

The second verse cautions how ancillary costs and fees can add up (the lyrics refer to my first-hand experience with high crypto “gas” fees), and the second chorus notes the importance of reading the fine print before committing to any investment.

Finally, the third verse refers to an internet story in which someone claimed to have damaged the memory card containing their cryptocurrency keys and/or passwords, and the third chorus emphasizes the importance of always keeping back-ups for these sorts of important financial accounts or access points.

Do you want to collaborate with other members in this group?

Yes, though it would need to be remote due to my geographic location, and my time availability may be limited until later this summer due to another project.
